چکیده

Progressive and catastrophic failure in soils has been commonly associated with the phenomenon of the shear band propagation. This paper is an attempt to validate the energy balance approach to modeling of the propagation of a two-dimensional, circular shaped shear band. This shear band can be observed in a shear blade test, performed in the novel shear-blade apparatus. The simplified analytical solution obtained in this paper is based on the fracture mechanics energy balance and the limiting equilibrium approaches. FLAC has been chosen as a standard FD tool to explore and compare numerical with experimental and analytical approaches. Comparison of results from different approaches provides an insight into the complex domain of modeling shear band propagation in soils.

Thermoelastic Analysis of a Functionally Graded Simple Blade Using First-Order Shear Deformation Theory

In this article, the thermo-elastic behavior of a functionally graded simple blade subjected to the mechanical and thermal loadings is presented, applying a semi-analytical method and a variable thickness cantilever beam model. A specific temperature gradient is employed between the root and the edges of the beam. It is assumed that the mechanical and thermal properties are longitudinal directi...

Rigor development and meat quality of large and small broilers and the use of Allo-Kramer shear, needle puncture, and razor blade shear to measure texture.

In each of 2 trials, 75 female and 75 male broilers of different sizes (large and small) were obtained from a commercial grower and were commercially processed. Breast fillets were deboned at 0.25, 1.5, 3, 6, and 24 h postmortem (total n = 15 per treatment per time point). Muscle pH and L* value were determined for each deboning time. Breast fillets were subjected to texture analysis using Allo...

Free vibration and buckling analysis of third-order shear deformation plate theory using exact wave propagation approach

In this paper, wave propagation approach is used to analysis the free vibration and buckling analysis of the thick rectangular plates based on higher order shear deformation plate theory. From wave viewpoint, vibrations can be considered as traveling waves along structures. Waves propagate in a waveguide and reflect at the boundaries. It is assumed that the plate has two opposite edge simply su...

Fracturing Truss Model: Size Effect in Shear Failure of Reinforced Concrete

The classical truss model (or strut-and-tie model) for shear failure of reinforced concrete beams is modified to describe fracture phenomena during failure. The failure is assumed to be caused by propagation of a compression fracture across the concrete strut during the portion of the loading history in which the maximum load is reached. The compression fracture may consist of a band of splitti...

بررسی عددی تأثیر خصوصیات خاک بر باندهای برشی

In some natural events such as soil failure the deformations are localized in narrow restrictions, which are called shear bands. This event which is a fundamental phenomenon in granular material, has been widely investigated during recent decades within expensive experimental tests and also some numerical simulations. Most of previously used numerical methods are based on continuum theories des...
